Farmers’ Almanac Says How Much Candy You Need for Halloween
Halloween candy is very expensive this year, so if you’re already wondering how many bags of Halloween candy to buy, the Farmers’ Almanac has a guide to help ya out!
The Farmers’ Almanac has released its Halloween candy-buying advice, offering a simple way to estimate how much candy you’ll need before the trick-or-treaters start knocking on your door.
The first step is figuring out how many little ghosts, goblins and superheroes you can expect.
The Almanac recommends asking your neighbors how many trick-or-treaters they typically see or using last year’s numbers as a starting point.
Just remember that weather, neighborhood events and the day of the week can all affect turnout.
Once you have an estimate, the Almanac recommends planning for two fun-size pieces of candy per trick-or-treater, plus an extra 10% to be safe.
For example, if you expect 100 trick-or-treaters, you should have approximately 220 pieces of fun-size candy ready to go.
If you prefer handing out full-size candy bars, the recommendation is much simpler: plan on one bar for every trick-or-treater you expect.
Of course, not everyone participates in the Halloween tradition. According to the information cited in the guide, 61% of consumers plan to hand out candy this year.
And if you’re looking to save a little money, timing matters. The Farmers’ Almanac recommends shopping during the second-to-last week of October for the best candy prices.
