Sioux Falls Great Bear Closed Friday Due to Extreme Cold

Great Bear Ski Valley will be closed on Friday, January 23, 2026 due to extreme cold temperatures affecting the area.

Great Bear remains open for regular hours today, January 22, 2026. Operations will resume this weekend with skiing, snowboarding, and tubing available Saturday, January 24 and Sunday, January 25, 2026.

However, morning tubing sessions, Lazer Tubing, and Late Night in the Terrain Park have been canceled for the weekend.

"We want everyone to be safe when the temps drop below freezing, and that's why we have adjusted our hours for the weekend," said assistant general manager Alexa Jerstad. "We've made some awesome snow recently, so we still hope everyone can bundle up and enjoy some time outdoors skiing or tubing! As we say at Great Bear, humans were never meant to hibernate."
