What To Expect From Megadeth’s First (and Last) Show At Sturgis
More than 40 years after helping to introduce 'thrash metal' to the music world, Megadeath is calling it quits, but not before a stop at one of the most iconic outdoor venues on the planet.
The Grammy-winning band will take the stage at Buffalo Chip in Sturgis, August 8th, as part of the 85th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
The group was formed in Los Angeles in 1983 by vocalist and guitarist Dave Mustaine, following his firing from Metallica after two years, due to substance abuse issues and reported conflicts with James Hetfield.

Megadeath released their debut album, Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!, two years later, but didn't generate much interest until their third album, So Far, So Good... So What!, cracked the top 30 in 1988. They never looked back after that, with their next 13 albums all landing in the top 25, including 8 in the top ten. In all, the band has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide.
Their 17th and final album, simply titled Megadeath, will be out January 23rd.
The August date at the Buffalo Chip will be the band's first-ever trip to Sturgis. It comes as part of their farewell tour, which begins February 15th in Canada, and according to Mustaine, could last as long as five years.
Megadeath joins classic rockers David Lee Roth and Lynyrd Skynyrd on the 2026 Buffalo Chip lineup.
You can get your passes now for the event, which runs from August 7-16.
